Author and adventurer.
Garry Weare led his first trek to Kashmir in 1973. 54 years on, after completing the best part of 150 treks and over 25,000km, mostly in the Indian Himalaya, he is still going strong undertaking high altitude treks in Ladakh and Nepal.
Garry still maintains his fitness and passion to undertake private treks and research including the KHC (Kashmir Himalayan Circuit) and a far reaching proposal to extend the Hemis National park in Ladakh – this will be uploaded on the website in the near future
Garry is more than aware of new opportunities - avoiding recent road developments and exploring what he considers a magnificent region of the Himalayan range. He is pleased to share his experiences and expertise and invites you to contact him for informal advice on your next trek.
Garry wrote all editions of Lonely Planet’s definitive Trekking in the Indian Himalaya; his acclaimed travel narrative A Long walk in the Himalaya – an account of a five month trek from the source of the Ganges to Kashmir) and Kashmir: A Journey through History.
Garry is founding director, a Fellow of the RGS, Hon Secretary (Australia) of the Himalayan Club and a recipient of a lifetime achievement award for promoting adventure tourism in India.
